When Starbucks left Glenbrook, it left more than just an empty space — it left a gap in the mall’s daily rhythm. For shoppers? A missed convenience. But for mall employees? A major loss in their routine.
“I used to hit Starbucks before every shift — it was just part of how I started my day,” – said one Glenbrook employee.
“If I didn’t grab something mid-shift, I was dragging. That little caffeine hit made surviving those 8-hour Saturdays way easier,” – another employee shared.
Now, that familiar caffeine stop is being replaced — not by another big chain, but by a homegrown small business:
The Grind Coffee House, a cozy café born in Garrett, Indiana, is officially taking over the former Starbucks space at Glenbrook Square Mall.
This is more than a new coffee option. It’s a culture shift. A small-town startup stepping into a space once held by a global giant — and bringing its own flavor, community energy, and personal touch.
In an era where people want more than just coffee — they want connection, flavor, and community — The Grind is stepping in at the perfect time.
Known for their strong brews, New York bagels, and welcoming vibes, The Grind has quietly built a loyal following in Garrett. Now they’re bringing that same heart to the biggest mall in the city.
We reached out to The Grind to get the full story on what’s next — how this expansion came together, what’s changing (or staying the same), and what Fort Wayne can expect. More on that soon.
But for now, just know:
🔹 Small business is taking the spotlight
🔹 Mall employees might have a new go-to spot
🔹 And The Grind is just getting started
