Egypt’s Remittances Surge to $47.3 Billion in FY 2025/26 Following Currency Reforms

Egypt’s expatriate remittances witnessed a robust recovery, reaching $47.3 billion in the 2025/26 fiscal year, up 29.6% from $36.5 billion a year earlier, according to preliminary balance-of-payments data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

The rebound follows the March 2024 economic reforms and exchange rate unification, which successfully bridged the gap between official and parallel market rates that previously drove flows through unofficial channels.

Furthermore, the CBE reported $33.9 billion in remittances between January and August 2026, marking a 27.2% increase year-on-year.

World Bank data highlights that this recovery elevated remittances to 11.4% of Egypt’s gross domestic product in 2025, cementing a strong turnaround from the 2023 slump.
