SCZONE Chairman Meets Kenyan Special Envoy for Climate Change
Mr. Moustafa Shaikhon, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), received Ambassador Ali Mohamed, Special Envoy for Climate Change to the President of the Republic of Kenya, and his accompanying delegation.
The meeting aimed to discuss pathways for joint cooperation and exchange expertise in green manufacturing, renewable energy project development, and sustainable development efforts in Africa, in the presence of several SCZONE executive leaders and representatives of relevant green transition entities.
At the outset of the meeting, Mr. Moustafa Shaikhon reviewed SCZONE’s ongoing efforts in supporting the green transition and localizing industries across the complete value chains of solar and wind energy systems, alongside accelerating green fuel production.
He highlighted SCZONE’s exceptional achievements in this field, chief among them the inauguration of Africa and the Middle East’s first integrated green hydrogen production plant within the economic zone.
This plant achieved a global milestone by winning the first supply agreement for green ammonia shipments with a funding contract valued at approximately €397 million under the global H2Global auction, consolidating Egypt and SCZONE’s standing as a leading regional hub for green energy.
He also noted SCZONE’s recognition among the top 50 sustainable and eco-friendly economic zones worldwide out of over 7,000 zones, according to the report issued by the Global Alliance of Special Economic Zones (GASEZ) in cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), crowning SCZONE’s efforts in green transition and its adoption of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
For his part, the Kenyan President’s Special Envoy for Climate Change expressed his deep admiration for the inspiring journey SCZONE has taken since its inception in development projects and its success in attracting investments across industrial and logistical sectors.
He praised SCZONE’s qualitative leaps in infrastructure and flexible policies that enhance the investment climate, emphasizing that Egypt’s green transition experience serves as a role model across the continent.
He reaffirmed Kenya’s keenness to strengthen its partnership with SCZONE and leverage its pioneering expertise to support economic integration among Global South nations and achieve environmental sustainability in Africa.
Following the meeting, the delegation conducted an inspection tour of the Sokhna Integrated Zone, including a field visit to a fertilizer manufacturing facility to gain firsthand insight into a practical success story of SCZONE’s investor partnerships, supported by investment incentives, high infrastructure readiness, utility and energy supply, and skilled labor.
The delegation also visited Sokhna Port to learn about its logistical services and activities across its diverse berths operating under world-class systems, as well as the port development works that have earned acclaim from major international institutions.
