Central Bank of Egypt Issues eKYC Regulations to Advance Digital Banking and Financial Inclusion

Demonstrating its commitment to accelerating digital transformation and financial inclusion, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Board of Directors has officially approved the regulatory framework for the Digital Financial Identity (DFI) Platform.

This groundbreaking initiative introduces electronic Customer Due Diligence and Know Your Customer (eKYC) procedures, allowing citizens to securely verify their identities and open bank accounts digitally without needing to visit physical branches.

Spearheaded by H.E. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the CBE, the new guidelines streamline remote banking operations by enabling electronic terms acceptance, digital signatures, and swift profile updates.

The regulatory framework enforces strict governance, technical standards, and cybersecurity controls in alignment with global best practices.

This milestone strengthens Egypt’s digital infrastructure and reinforces its position as a regional hub for financial technology and digital services.
