Egypt and China Sign CICC Feasibility Study
The Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Dr. Mohamed Farid, witnessed the signing of the minutes of discussions for the feasibility study aimed at developing and renovating the Cairo International Convention Centre (CICC).
The project is being carried out in cooperation between the Chinese International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the Egyptian side, represented by the Ministry of Investment and the General Authority for Exhibitions and Fairs (GAEF), headed by Minister Plenipotentiary Alaa El-Baily, alongside officials from the Chinese Embassy in Cairo.
Dr. Farid emphasized that upgrading the CICC—which spans approximately 185,000 square meters with a targeted renovation area of 58,000 square meters—stems from the state’s strategic focus on strengthening trade and investment infrastructure.
He noted that the project underscores the robust and enduring partnership between Egypt and China, leveraging Chinese technical expertise to elevate Cairo’s position as a regional hub for international exhibitions and conferences.
The comprehensive development plan includes modernizing conference halls, upgrading engineering and technical systems, replacing 25 elevators, and revamping open exhibition spaces, green areas, and public utilities.
Furthermore, if officially approved, the Chinese side will undertake design and implementation works, alongside providing two years of post-completion technical support, training, and spare parts. Final project specifications and responsibilities will be determined through subsequent official memorandums.
