The European Commission has officially approved the disbursement of €1.5 billion to Egypt, marking the second payment of the second tranche under the Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) package. According to a statement released by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 24, 2026, this vital financial injection successfully completes the total €5 billion MFA allocation designed to support the North African nation’s ongoing economic reforms.
This latest transfer follows the previous €1 billion disbursement delivered in January 2026. The funding is a core component of the broad strategic partnership launched between Egypt and the European Union in March 2024 to bolster bilateral economic cooperation and stability.
To date, the EU has committed an expansive €7.4 billion support package for Egypt through 2027. This comprehensive financial framework encompasses the €5 billion MFA package, €1.8 billion in targeted investment guarantees for both European and Egyptian enterprises, and roughly €600 million dedicated to technical assistance, training, and capacity-building initiatives.
The milestone progress in EU-Egypt relations was further highlighted when Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, where they reviewed the robust growth of bilateral ties under their ongoing strategic partnership.
