Egyptian FM Urges Continued US-Iran Diplomatic Engagement for Regional Stability

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has underscored the urgent need for sustained diplomatic dialogue between Washington and Tehran to mitigate regional tensions.

In recent high-level consultations with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Egyptian top diplomat emphasized that progress in US-Iran negotiations remains critical to broader international security.

During his discussion with IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, Minister Abdelatty addressed the recent 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

While expressing disappointment over the conference’s failure to produce a consensus document, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the NPT as the cornerstone of global disarmament.

He specifically reiterated the long-standing international demand for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, highlighting the necessity of universal adherence to the treaty.

Separately, in a dialogue with his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister Abdelatty focused on strengthening bilateral ties and coordinating responses to mounting regional challenges.

Both officials echoed the importance of supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating conflicts between the US and Iran.

By fostering communication, Cairo and Abu Dhabi aim to stabilize the volatile regional landscape and promote a more secure geopolitical environment in the Middle East.
