Amazon Lifts 2026 Capex Forecast to $220 Billion Amid Surging Cloud Growth and Rising Component Costs

Amazon announced strong second-quarter 2026 financial results, driven by accelerating cloud infrastructure growth and strong enterprise demand for artificial intelligence.

Total net sales rose to $200.61 billion, surpassing analyst estimates of $196.47 billion, while adjusted earnings per share reached $1.97.

Growth was led by Amazon Web Services (AWS), which expanded 37% year-over-year to $42.2 billion—its fastest growth rate since 2021.

To meet booming enterprise demand, Amazon increased its full-year 2026 capital expenditures forecast to $220 billion, up from a previous projection of $200 billion.

CEO Andy Jassy highlighted that elevated spending is driven by soaring demand for AI infrastructure, alongside higher memory component costs.

Jassy noted that despite the record spending, capacity constraints will likely persist through 2027 due to an expanding AWS backlog that reached $496 billion during the quarter.
