Former President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military conducted a covert operation to secure the transit of over 100 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Trump, this mission was initiated in response to the strategic closure of the waterway following recent regional conflicts.
He stated that the effort successfully facilitated the passage of more than 200 commercial vessels, asserting continued U.S. control over the vital maritime chokepoint.
The initiative, referred to as “Project Freedom,” was launched in early May to protect commercial shipping interests.
However, Trump noted that the operation was discontinued after one day as part of a broader effort to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East, which has been ongoing since February 28.
