Alkan Real Estate Unveils Citadel Plaza: A Landmark Mixed-Use Destination in Historic Cairo

Alkan Real Estate, a subsidiary of Alkan Holding, has officially announced Citadel Plaza, a premier mixed-use tourism and heritage project.

Strategically located overlooking the Citadel of Saladin, the development spans 60,000 sqm and serves as a contemporary gateway to Historic Cairo, aligning with Egypt’s national vision for urban and touristic revival.

Key Highlights of Citadel Plaza

Strategic Location: Situated east of the Citadel, connecting East and West Cairo, while remaining outside the official archaeological zone.

Integrated Facilities: Features a blend of hospitality, retail, culture, entertainment, and premium office spaces.

Tourism Boost: Introduces 550 hotel rooms and 70 serviced apartments to increase Cairo’s hospitality capacity and tourist length of stay.

Cultural Hub: Home to Darb El Fenoun, a dedicated platform for Egyptian artisans, designers, and creative entrepreneurs.

Heritage-Led Urban Development

Developed under the auspices of the National Committee for the Protection and Development of Historic Cairo, the project adheres to UNESCO World Heritage standards.

It aims to transform the district into an active economic zone while preserving its unique architectural identity.

“Citadel Plaza is a long-term commitment to unlocking the potential of one of Cairo’s most significant areas,” stated Khaled Nosseir, Chairman of Alkan Holding.

Strategic Phasing and Economic Impact

The project is designed to improve accessibility in the historic district through structured circulation and ample parking. To ensure a cohesive rollout, the development will follow a strategic timeline:

Phase I Completion: Scheduled for Q4 2027.

Full Completion: Hospitality and subsequent phases expected by Q4 2029.
