Pfizer’s MERA Region Focuses on Innovation, Localization, and Strategic Partnerships to Shape Future Healthcare

Pfizer’s Regional President for the Middle East, Russia and Africa (MERA), Rodrigo Puga, has highlighted the critical strategic importance of the MERA region within Pfizer’s global growth framework, driven by scale, demographic growth, and ambitious healthcare transformation agendas.

As Pfizer reshapes for a new era of faster innovation, the company is prioritizing next-wave treatments in obesity, oncology, immunology, inflammation, and vaccines.

To ensure reliable access during geopolitical or logistical disruptions, Pfizer has enhanced supply chain resilience by diversifying suppliers, reinforcing its manufacturing footprint, and building parallel supply networks.

Furthermore, Pfizer is actively engaging with regional stakeholders, sovereign wealth funds, and governments to support drug security, localization, and public-private partnerships (PPPs)—such as the “Accord for a Healthier World”—while leveraging AI, digital health tools, and clinical trials to tackle high regional rates of metabolic syndromes, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

Looking ahead over the next five years, Pfizer aims to expand access to life-course vaccinations, advance cutting-edge clinical pipelines, and collaborate closely with regional health systems to improve patient outcomes.
