Egypt Unveils Ambitious Tourism Strategy to Boost Hotel Capacity and Ease Visa Restrictions

Egypt is set to launch a comprehensive new tourism strategy in August, aimed at driving a massive surge in inbound visitors and strengthening non-oil economic revenues.

Announced by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly following a high-level ministerial meeting, the initiative focuses on expanding hotel room capacity, enhancing airline incentives, and streamlining entry procedures for international travelers.

As part of the digital transformation efforts highlighted by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, Egypt will roll out an advanced electronic visa issuance system.

This system is designed to expedite entry processes, reduce waiting times, and significantly expand the list of nationalities eligible for airport visas on arrival.

These measures aim to sharpen Egypt’s global competitiveness as a premier travel destination.

The push comes as Egypt capitalizes on robust sector performance.

Official figures indicate that tourism revenues climbed to nearly $14.4 billion during the first nine months of the 2025–2026 fiscal year (July–March), up from $12.5 billion the previous year, following a record-breaking influx of over 19 million visitors last year.

By addressing infrastructure bottlenecks and easing travel curbs, the government hopes to further cement tourism’s role as a vital pillar for hard currency generation and national economic stability.
